Sub genre's: Comedy-drama ( teen romantic)

List the title credits and the order they appear in:

  • Institution name (Universal pictures)
  • Other credits (Studiocanal)
  • Production ( A Working title production)
  • Movie title (WIild Child)

What 'type' category of title sequence does the film have
It has moving image and narrative , I know this because the title credits are introduced on moving images which introduces the narrative to the audience

Who is the producer? Mainstream or Independent production?

The movie was produced by Tim Bevan , Eric Fellner and Diana Philips. It is mainstream production with a budget of $20 million.

What storyline or plots are introduced in the films opening? how are these developed in rest of film?

The film is based on a young American teenage girl who comes from a broken but wealthy home travel to England against her wishes as her father thinks she needs to be taught about morals and values. We also learn that her mum passed away earlier on and her dad had found a new partner , she despised this and sold off all her fathers partners clothing. Eventually when she settles down into the English boarding school she learn that her mother also attended that school and was the captain of the sports team - this motivates and encourages her to do well and be active within school sports.

Who are the main characters? How are they introduced and represented in the title sequence? How do they develop over the course of the film / what experiences  or conflicts do we see them encounter?

The main character is Poppy Moore - she is introduced as a spoilt but very wealthy rich girl from the states who takes much pride in her appearance. She is also shown as rude and conceited however during the course of the film she starts to show qualities of a hard working and loving peer. She finds herself up against head girl ( who is another lead role in the film) Harriet Bentley. Harriet craves authority and is threatened when in contact with Poppy , consequently she tries everything in her power to destroy her.

What social groups are we introduced to in the films opening sequence? Is stereotyping used to introduce these groups and do the change over time?

We are introduced to peer groups and a household. The stereotype that the British are posh is illustrated when the head girl is introduced.

How do the teen/youth characters interact with adults? Is it how we would expect them to be in a teen film?

Majority of the students at the school are very respectful towards adults as they have been well disciplined but then there is the one rebellious student who also happens to be the main character in the movie. This is normal to viewers as there is always a student(s) who choose not to co operate with adults

Camera - What are the main camera shot types used in the film?

As there are already established peer groups when Poppy arrives , the camera uses a lot of group shots and establishing shots to emphasise a change in location

Editing - What kind of editing techniques does the film use? Does it have slow or fast pace? Are there any special effects? Who has most of the screen time?

The film uses jump cuts , panning etc - on average the pace is normal until it gets to really intense moments where the pace is then sped up. Most screen time is given to the main character Poppy

Sound - what kind of soundtrack does the film have ? how does it link to the themes of the story lines? What does it tell us about the character?

There is a lot of diegetic sound used ( girls gasping , girls chatting , chairs scraping against the floor) a lot of non diegetic sound ( car hitting the gravel ) and background music - the music used in the film is pop themed and usually is a female artist which supports the idea of a girl boarding school

Mis-en-scene - What are the key locations or settings do we see in the film?

England - KENT , boarding school , shopping town , California - malibu

Mis-en-scene - What are the key props in the film? What do they tell us about the characters and the film?

A key prop used is a mobile phone
