Credits and Title Sequence - Finished Piece

Fish Tank does not use a lot of credits and does not mention the actor/actresses names however we'd like everyone involved to be acknowledged whatever role they have.

On the other hand...

Although London to Brighton have one more than Fish Tank the number is closer to the amount we'd like to use. Our title sequence will consist of:
Production Company
Production Title
Names of producers
Names of directors
Names of actors and actresses
Production credits
This will enhance our acknowledgement of each tea member and we'll also be able to give recognition to some if not one of the locations we used.

Film making and using garage band interview

This is the Haringey Gazette that I have made. This will reveal the reason of death to our audience and will enable the audience to understand the opening scene without a narrator to explain the death of 'Zoe Watson'. Furthermore, the opening scene may seem confusing without a brief explanation.

Editing our film to make it black and white

We recently taught ourselves how to edit our clips into black and white and thought we should share it with you ...

Editing process interview

I (Taja) Interviewed the editing team and asked them some basic questions about the filming and editing process.

Editing

When we filmed our first shots our shots were not as strong as we thought them to be. To make them stronger, during the half term we re-filmed our first two scenes making sure to use the camera and other equipment accurately, we re-filmed the library scene and the very beginning before Taja makes her way to the library (Taja and Florence leaving college) not forgetting the flashbacks of Taja (Samantha) Florence (Rachel) and Shakyrah (Zoe).

We added some shots to emphasise the different characters roles. Shakyrah's dead, her all white costume symbolises this as does the other characters not acknowledging her. We have Taja reading a prospectus to show she is not only academically focused but she is also focused on the future.

We tried to involve everyone in the filming process so everyone knew how to properly use the camera and put their skills into action. The actors and actresses were able to film each other. Overall we learnt that if you want perfectly clean and visible shots we'd need to focus the camera and use the tripod to make sure the camera is positioned accurately.

Shooting Feedback

I realised that the scenes shot in the library for the nerdy girl had a lot of issues.
  • Some shots had the character's head cut off
  • A lot of shots were not focused
  • Some match cuts left too much open space
  • Some scenes had too much space left above the head
As a result we will be result we will be re-shooting all these scenes

New time schedule for refilming.

Improvements which need to be rectified

We shot the whole opening and realised that we need to improve some of the footage which we had.

The beginning we had both Rachel (Party Girl) and Samantha (Intelligent Girl) leaving Conel college which is located in Tottenham going "Separate ways." The footage which we had for that wasn't as up to scratch as it should of been. For example too much space over the head of both actresses. So in order to rectify that we will be re-film that scene to get perfect shots. Maybe using a tripod will allow it to come out a lot more successful than it did.

The Library scene needed improvement too. For example when we recorded and focused on the phone that was on the table, the phone wasn't centred. So in order to make it look more effective we need to centre the phone properly next time round.

Furthermore with the Library scene it was too basic according to our teachers feedback. So in order to improve that scene it would be wise to maybe focus on her going into her bag to reach for a certificate which she got given previously. Or her looking for universities

Teachers feedback

Today in media we received feedback from our teacher.
We re-planned our story board as we were told that some of our shots needed improvement.
The shots which we are going to improve are:

  • Leaving the college scene, for this scene improvements such as match cuts need to be improved so that it's more understandable for people viewing it to understand.
  • We also planned to incorporate a newspaper stating that one of the friends had died. Which should hopefully make the opening a lot more understanding to viewers, we got given this idea because having a person in white doesn't show that she's a ghost. In order to make it more understandable we decided to include a newspaper which explains that.
  • Also we decided to re film the library scene and make it a lot more interesting for example have her looking for universities. And also some of the clips were wonky.

Soundtracks

Soundtrack for Opening, it will be along the same lines as this. We will be using a sardonic, melodic type of soundtrack to enforce the emotions displayed. The use of the soundtrack will foreshadow upcoming attitudes and feelings conveyed throughout the clip leading to drama; this reinforces our genre which is 'Youth drama'

What is a title sequence?

Title Sequences

21 Jump Street

The title sequence starts with bold spread out text reading "THE END" the video then transitions into a numerous amount of jump cuts in a fast pace. There is also a mixture of diegetic and non - diegetic sounds within the title , diegetic sound to portray explosions are used as well as up beat pop music. Further into the title sequence there is more titles over moving image , this is effective because it helps to illustrate the narrative and also credit actors/actresses. The use of edits and fast car chase scenes and explosions help the audience identify that the genre of this film is action adventure. The main characters used are also portrayed as humorous also helping to identify the comedic aspect of the film. The sequence uses natural lighting for its scenes but also has a palette of masculine colours which could also address the fact the core audience for this film are males.

The Incredibles

The title sequence starts of  with a bold title that reads "THE INCREDIBLES" the cartoonist title sequence then begins by using familiar and recognisable non-diegetic music as background sound. Characters are shown as powerful and mystical , each shot somehow is transitioned to credit the production crew. This title sequence uses text over still images and black background. This title sequence focuses a lot on its graphics , there is a variety of visuals to help illustrate its animated film and also establish a target audience. The colours used in the title sequence range from a few earthy colours which also help to show the films friendly nature.

Sunday 1 February 2015

1/02/15 DAY TWO

We successfully filmed all of the outdoor scenes.

We didn't film them in the order of our actual film as we felt that filming at the graveyard which was the furthest would be more convenient. After filming the graveyard scene we then filmed the library and college scene.
  • Graveyard
  • Entering Marcus Garvey Library
  • Leaving Conel College
The Graveyard scene was successful  Rachel (Florence the Party Girl) went to go and visit her long lost friend Zoey at the cemetery. We got lot's of different shots ranging from wide shots to close up shots.

As we didn't manage to film the journey of Samantha going to the library we did those shots today. And also due to the weather being a lot better than it was for us yesterday. This was really exciting to film as we recorded her from many different angles.

Lastly we recorded both Samantha and Zoey leaving Conel college and going separate ways or down "Different Roads" to illustrate how much their relationship has changed.

Overall today was really successful we got many different shots so that when it comes to editing we have a wide range to choose from!!!!!

Day Two of Filming

DAY TWO !! (FINAL DAY)

Today we are filming all of our outside scenes which are within the same area so it'll be easier for us.
We are also planning to re film some of the party girl scenes so that it makes more sense to us when we are editing for example her putting on more make-up and a pan of the whole outfit. And also so that we have a lot of ideas to choose from.

Today we will also discuss the music that will be used in order to make it really effective.
Pictures from behind the scenes will be posted again today so that you can see how much hard work we are putting into our short film.

Day One of Filming Outcome (31/01/15)

Filming:
We managed to get all the in door scenes as the weather yesterday wasn't too good. So that Included the Intelligent Girl in the library revising and The party Girl getting ready.
We also managed to record the flash back too.
We got many shots so that we have a wide range to choose from.

Weather:
The weather let us down but hopefully today (1.02.15) we can do all our outside scenes!!!

  • Walking out of conel college
  • Walking to different destinations
  • Paying a visit to their longlost friend zoey at the grave yard
As a result Day one of filming was really successful and we got a lot done!

Our Behind Scene Photos (Day One)

OUR PLOT!

We further developed our film and changed the plot.
  • We have three characters Florence is Rachel ,Taja was Samantha and we had an extra actor with the name Zoey she's the character which passed (her actual name is Shakyrah)
  • All three of them walk out of the college but the one which isn't alive -Zoey will be in all white to show that she has passed.
  • They then go separate ways. The "Intelligent Girl" Samantha goes to the library to revise and the "Party Girl" Rachel goes home to get dressed to attend the party later on in the day.
  • Whilst the Samantha is at the library we'll be using a split screen to show when the Rachel sends Samantha (intelligent girl) a text to ask if she's attending the party. The request is declined and they both throw something at the screen which will turn it black and change into a flash back.
  • The flash back will show a memory that Rachel, Samantha and Zoey had before zoey past and how much fun they use to have.
  • It'll then divert back to the party girl Rachel and show that instead of going to the party she's going to go to the graveyard instead.
  • At the grave yard we will have Rachel putting a red rose on her friend Zoey's Grave.
And this is our final Plot Idea!!!!
